Surge Q4 2024 Recap: Momentum Meets Milestones

Jan 8, 2025

Happy New Year, Surgants! Here’s to a 2025 that’s bold, pro-crypto, and ready to redefine Bitcoin scaling. The future of Web3 is still wide open—early builders like us are driving what’s next.

Q4 2024 was game-changing for Surge. Our prep in Q3 paid off, and we hit major milestones that set the stage for a strong launch. From exploding our community with SurgeSaga to kicking off US operations, our mission to bring scalable, decentralized Bitcoin infrastructure into the spotlight is surging forward.

Here’s the TL; DR(but trust me, you’ll want the full scoop):

  • Surge Network Litepaper: Released after extensive research, sparking over 10k participants and 500 Ordinals minted; testnet phase 1 is on the way.

  • Surge Saga: Our community engagement campaigns attracted 1.1M+ participants and blew up our Galxe, Discord, and X stats.

  • Surge Research: Published two key reports advancing Bitcoin scaling insights, with more research lined up for 2025.

  • US Operations Kickoff: Officially launched US operations with an office in Fremont, CA, and the leadership team now based in Mountain View.

  • Collaboration with Movement Labs: Successful interoperability deployment on Movement Labs' testnet received strong community support.

  • Devcon 2024: Connected with global Web3 leaders at Devcon in Bangkok, spreading the BTCFi narrative through impromptu sessions and discussions.

  • Pre-Seed Funding: Raised $1.8M pre-seed to fuel our testnet phase 1 launch and ecosystem growth.

Surge Network Litepaper

After months of engineering, research, and validation, our Surge Litepaper went public. The mission: unlock Bitcoin scalability and decentralization—no soft forks required. It’s time for BTCFi to shine.

The stats speak for themselves:

  • 500 Tier 1 Ordinals minted in record time.

  • Over 1000 community members engaged in discussions and feedback.

  • Campaign reach? 10,000+ participants—all in Q4 alone!

Our Tesnet Phase 1 already in the works—get ready for what’s next.

SurgeSaga: Our Community-First Ecosystem

Web3 thrives on collaboration, and SurgeSaga is our way of rewarding and amplifying the community’s role in this journey.

Since launch, SurgeSaga has become a cornerstone for engagement:

  • Galxe followers: 400k+

  • Galxe participants: 1.1M+ 🚀

  • X followers: 60k+

  • Discord: 35k+ surgants.

From introductory quests to our Litepaper Campaign and partnerships, the numbers prove we’re building more than just a network—we’re building a movement.

Surge Research: BTCFi’s Brainpower

Some teams cut corners on research—we double down. Our reports break new ground in Bitcoin’s scaling and zkProofs, and we’re not stopping.

Two key reports were published this quarter, and many more are in the works. Want to dive deep? Our research hub is live and ready for feedback.

US Operations Kickoff

The US is critical to scaling globally. While Surge was founded in the States, Q4 marked our boots-on-the-ground expansion.

We’ve established an office in Fremont, CA, and I’ve personally moved to Mountain View to lead this chapter. Our core engineering team in Bengaluru continues to break boundaries, with Punith leading an all-star team.

Collaboration with Movement Labs

We’re big believers in interoperability—so our partnership with Movement Labs was a no-brainer.

Their TGE success proved the power of their Move Framework, and our interoperability work on their testnet saw overwhelming community support.

We built MagicMove an interoperability deployment use-case showcasing how the Surge Metalayer enables seamless interaction between Bitcoin and the Move ecosystem. Deploying it as part of the movement testnet we saw over 174 testBTC move (pun intended) into movement! This collaboration is just the start of bridging ecosystems.

Devcon 2024: Spreading the Surge Vision

Devcon 2024 in Bangkok was incredible. Our Surgant squad connected with brilliant minds, hosted impromptu discussions and shared our BTCFi vision.

Punith, our CTO, led a spontaneous session that attracted devs eager to build beyond limits. We left with insights, connections, and a reminder: Bitcoin’s next era is just beginning.

Pre-Seed Funding Announcement: Fuel for the Future

Our biggest update was in early Q4 when we announced our $1.8M pre-seed round led by incredible VCs and angel investors who share our vision. This funding powers Phase 1 of our testnet launch and ecosystem growth.

Thank you to all our backers and community—your belief in our mission fuels everything.

What’s Next?

The next few months will be pivotal. Our engineering team is deep in testnet development, and we’re lining up new interactive campaigns to onboard developers and build ecosystem momentum. Don’t forget to join the discord party as we plan on hosting a range of AMAs, podcasts and game-competitions!

Keep building. Keep scaling. We’ll be right there with you.

Cheers and onward,

Yash,

Proud Founder & Surgant
